10 second transformation mode

Just take it 10 seconds at a time

Anything is possible, if you break it down into small manageable pieces.  This applies to everything…blogging, working out and even trying something new. I truly believe that you can achieve anything with baby steps, and inspiration can literally come from anywhere.  Initiate your 10 Second Transformation Mode.

This week, I was short on time and ideas.  I knew there was no way I could tackle it in one day, so, I broke it into chunks. Every chunk became an even smaller piece, and before I knew it I was in the zone, typing with abandon.

Where did I get the inspiration, you ask? Pinterest? Nope not Pinterest. I got it from Netflix. For real…Netflix.  Recently, I discovered the Netflix original sitcom “unBreakABLE Kimmy Schmidt” and her completely dysfunctional friends. Her sense of wonder and her optimistic belief that there is so much good in the world is infectious and every episode I find myself grinning and shaking my head and wishing I was more like her…and wishing everyone else was too {optimistic, not dysfunctional 😉 }.

Ultimately, the message via these colorful and rich characters: Resilience. Despite their circumstances, Kimmy, Titus and Jaqueline are all able to reinvent themselves to make it.

How many times have you wanted to quit whatever it is you’re doing — folding laundry, driving to work, working out — just this week alone? Sometimes it seems like giving up is more a part of the human psyche than the push for success.

“I learned a long time ago that a person can stand just about anything for 10 seconds, then you just start on a new 10 seconds. All you’ve got to do is take it 10 seconds at a time.” ~ Kimmy Schmidt

We create impossible to-do lists, unreasonable expectations, and Pinterest boards full of pie-in-the-sky goals. I love Pinterest, but the likelihood of me actually putting glitter paint on my house keys is 0.0395% {yes I pinned it anyway}.

But here’s the thing. We can do anything for 10 seconds…or 20 seconds if you’re Matt Damon.  Whatever works.

“You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.” – Matt Damon in We Bought a Zoo

Today, I’m issuing a challenge to myself, and I want you to join me.

I am challenging us to implement 10 second Transformation Mode everyday this week. Try something new or pick an exercise, either way, I promise you can expect great things!

  • approach somebody you find interesting and talk to them
  • or
  • do push ups
  • take more initiative at work
  • or
  • do squats
  • talk to a complete stranger
  • or
  • do jumping jacks
  • saying yes to something you’d normally say no to
  • or
  • jump rope
  • go to that part of the gym that you’re afraid of
  • or
  • do lunges
  • sign up for a new class
  • or
  • do sit ups
  • And so on!

“Be you. Be what you want. And then become unbreakable.” ~ Kimmy Schmidt

So there you have it.  Stay unBreakABLE :*
