Get off your butt. Are you’re reading this article while perched in a chair? And, if you are (like most bloggers & computer users), have you been there for a while?
You might not want to take the following statistic sitting down: According to a poll of nearly 6,300 people by the Institute for Medicine and Public Health, it’s likely that you spend a stunning 8 hours a day (56 hours a week) planted like a geranium—staring at your computer screen, working the steering wheel, and collapsed in a heap in front of your high-def TV. OMG
If so, then you may have “sitting disease,” a catchy phrase for a sedentary lifestyle that might be putting your health at risk.
Here are 6 exercises to combat too much sitting. Get up every 30 minutes. Set a timer. Pick an exercise, and do it.
1: Do : Chair squats 10-15
2: Do : Kneeling bicep stretch 3
3: Do : Standing Leg Curl 8 each leg
4: Do : Chair/Desk Tricep Dips 10-15
5: Do: Chair plank (time yourself)
6: Do : Chair Split Leg Squats 5 each leg
Research shows that the longer you sit, the greater your waist circumference, and the higher your risk of dying from cardiovascular disease. Now get moving!
***Note: Any of the above, if your chair is on wheels, be careful!
So there you have it.
