The weather was fitting. Sunny and warm with green fully-leafed trees overhead casting dense shadows on the trail. I HIIT the trail on foot for some fresh air and exercise. Idyllic, no surprise the trail was teeming with folks. Runners, walkers, bicyclists, horseback riders and a smoking cyclist. Wait, what?! Unfortunately, not the smokin’ “hot” kind like Chris Hemsworth…the other kind of smoker.
It took me by surprise. It was like seeing unicorn poop, (only just the poop, without the mysterious unicorn). The very definition of a fitness oxymoron. There he was, riding his bicycle whilst smoking a cigarette like a chimney. He came from behind, rode past me on the trail and blew out a great puff of cigarette smoke in my face as he past by. Cough. Jerk. ?#@*&%!
It happened really fast. At first, I felt like “did that just happen”? Hey!! What a jerk!! I confess, for a split second, I was tempted to pick up a rock and throw it at him. Visions of a newspaper headline “Trail Rage”, the back of a squad car and handcuffs…I didn’t.
Note to self: My only regret, I need to be faster with my cell phone camera. Missing taking a picture of that ?#@*&%! for evidence… it bugs me.
I’m not a fan of smokers
I’m never around smokers. No one in my family smokes, none of my friends smoke, nobody I know that’s still living smokes. I am fully aware that a lot of people still smoke, the tobacco companies are still in business and I’m reminded of how many smokers still exist on the rare occasion I step into a casino. Other than that, I encounter smoke very rarely and I’m thrilled to bits about it. Good riddance.
Which brings me to my next thought. I guess it’s a matter of my naivety. Silly me, not everyone takes to the trail for health or exercise. Some people are on the trail riding bicycles for reasons other than fitness.
So there you have it.
