Orange Sesame Broccoli Recipe | AutumnPTW.com

Orange-Sesame Broccoli

We love broccoli around here and I’m always looking for new ways to make it. Yet oddly enough, this is the first recipe I’ve ever actually posted featuring broccoli. Oh this Orange Sesame Broccoli side dish, I love everything there is to love about it. The fresh ingredients, the tantalizing crunch and the creativeness of concocting a side dish using spices I’ve never combined before. Voila, a new favorite!

Orange Sesame Broccoli

Ok, so you know me, you know where this is going. I can’t take the credit for inventing it. There are tons of similar recipes on the internet if you search {This one in particular: MyRecipes.com}. Ultimately, I took some ideas from several different recipes I saw and using the ingredients I had on hand-made it my own.

For me, there is something about combining orange and sesame, that brings Asian cuisine to mind. Although this recipe is not overly Asian… plan accordingly. In other words, I wouldn’t serve it with an Italian main course.  But paired with grilled protein {chicken} and brown rice…it’s perfection!  Perfection.  Did I mention its perfect?!  Its pretty awesome.

Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice

Orange zest

I used fresh squeezed orange juice, chives cut from my herb garden and some of my homemade dried orange zest. You heard me right.  That’s right, I made my own dried orange zest a week ago.  Actually that day, I made dried lime and lemon zest too.  Turns out I like to dry food out…who knew? My husband chimes in, “In more ways than one”.  Ha ha, very funny {eye roll} whatever.  Seriously I’m thinking of buying a food dehydrator, because…I need more small kitchen appliances.  HA! But I do kinda want one…

Broccoli, I love it steamed just until it turns bright-green and crisp, but I also adore it cooked. I grill it, roast it and stir-fry it, and even chop or grate it to meld into everything from soups to salads. Raw it’s one of my favorite dippers. It’s a year-round staple in my kitchen, and I’m happy to eat it everyday.

So there you have it, we had this recipe for dinner. And it was fantastic.
