TGIF! How was your week? I spent my limited free-time taking advantage of every opportunity to be outside in this beautiful weather. I love workout variety. Why does time spent doing cardio outside seem to go by so much quicker? Anyone else lose track of time when outdoors? Recovery Smoothie made simple
Just saying, I definitely don’t lose track when I’m on a treadmill. I must admit my regular bike route is getting boring. Been there, done that, time to recover. Made a mental note to choose a refreshing change in scenery and tackle a new trail leg.
As promised, here is my Recovery Smoothie Made Simple Recipe. Believe it or not…for once, this one came together nicely without a trip to the store. Amazing right? I pulled out extras I had in the kitchen leftover from our Memorial Day BBQ and blended up my new favorite. It’s full of ingredients that help fight inflammation and promote quick repair and healing, all of which are handy-dandy if you are physically active. Not only can it help you recover, but it tastes great too!
Avocado is an anti-inflammatory super food. Containing antioxidant monounsaturated oil, essential fatty acids and Vitamin E, it promotes cartilage repair in osteoarthritis.
Strawberries are chock-full of vitamin C, research suggests they fight arthritic joint pain.
Ginger is one delicious powerful spice, studies say it is an anti-inflammatory agent blocking the same enzyme that drugs like aspirin, and ibuprofen do.
Coconut Water is pricey $$ (but worth every delicious ounce). Incredibly hydrating and full of wonderful electrolyte minerals, namely potassium, calcium and magnesium. Get out your wallet out and say goodbye to muscle cramps.
Vega Sport Performance – complete multi-source, plant-based protein powder blend, featuring 5000 mg of BCAAs ad 5000 mg of glutamine per serving. It is formulated to repair and build muscle and reduce recovery time between training.
Watermelon is high in Vitamin A and C. It contains a high concentration of lycopene said to have beneficial effects on lowering cardiovascular disease risk.
Greek Yogurt – Has an ideal combination of protein and carbohydrates for exercise recovery and muscle growth. It’s tangy flavor offsets the juicy quality of the fruits. (optional if you prefer dairy free)
