Three things I know to be true – for me. This prompt was inspired by the brilliant Sarah Kay. Her TED Talk “If I Should Have a Daughter” is inspiring for anyone that blogs or writes, not just moms with daughters. I don’t pretend to know it all, but I do know these 3 things:
Three Things I know To Be True – for me.
I am resourceful.
My proudest trait. Where there is a will, there is a way. It is earned from a life of not-so ideal situations. As a resourceful person, I don’t sit for long and worry about my dilemma. I use my mind, resources and take action. I think about the situation and take care of any problems as they occur. I know beyond any doubt, that my less than perfect life – good and bad – helped form the person I am. I can’t control things that happen or other people’s reactions, but I am in the driver’s seat when it comes to choosing my own response – and that choice is ALWAYS mine.
What I’m avoiding or putting off is most often exactly what I need to do to move forward.
The hardest thing to do, is often the right thing to do. The conversations I don’t want to have, the patience I don’t want to summon, the approach I don’t want to take, the feelings I don’t want to acknowledge, the tasks I don’t want to begin: Whatever I’m sidestepping is usually exactly what I need to address. Once I confront and do it, I find it’s never as bad as I thought it would be. The benefits of taking situations by the horns reach beyond the obvious.
Almost everything that appears to be “bad” on the surface leads to improvement – if I look and learn.
Yes, I know you’re shaking your head. Whats enjoyable about car trouble, gaining 15 pounds or a computer malfunction? Okay, I don’t immediately know either. You know the old saying, “Under all this poop, there has to be a pony somewhere.” What I try to do is, focus on looking for the pony. Staying positive is tough, and I don’t always manage, but I do work on cultivating the ability to ask myself what good may come of the crappy things that happen.Got #writersblock ?
