I love doing product reviews. I’m open-minded about learning and trying new things. I love to review products that I find useful and beneficial to myself and that will be helpful to my readers as well. If I don’t believe in a product, then I won’t promote it on my blog. Cross my heart <3
Onward, today I am reviewing Vega Sport Performance Protein Recovery. A few weeks ago, I received my samples from Vega Sport and I began trying them out. Here is what I discovered, learned and wish to share. #fuelyourbetter
As luck would have it, I had been considering adding a recovery shake back into my diet. Long story short, I haven’t been as good about drinking recovery shakes as often because of timing (my workout completion time is closer to a mealtime not a snack.)
Protein shakes are a regular part of my routine. Please know that I’m picky about them. I found that Vega Sport not only gave me the specific recovery Carb to Protein ratios I was looking for–but the calorie & low-fat value too. I was excited to try it!

What makes Vega Sport different:
Vega Sport is the first all-natural, plant-based performance enhancement system specifically developed to help athletes perform at their best–before, during and after training and competition. Vega Sport products are plant-based, diary, gluten and soy free and contain no artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners
Taste Score: 4 out of 5
If you have never tried a Protein Shake before–to me protein shakes have an artificial taste and I expect that. After all they are not real food and are highly processed and scientifically manufactured. Each one has its own unique flavor and Vega Sport is no different.
When it comes to protein shakes I tend to like the token chocolate flavor. The samples I received to review were Vanilla. Even though my first reaction was “Dang, it’s not chocolate”…after trying it, I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the Vanilla flavor.
It was a refreshing change, it’s not too sweet and not overly artificial tasting, just what you would expect Vanilla plant-based shake to taste like. Good enough that it piqued my curiosity and I would love to try the chocolate version. (hint, hint Vega Sport) 😉
Now pin it side by side, Vega compared to a Whey protein you can definitely taste the Vega “plant-based” difference. Simply stated, if you’re a Whey Protein drinker and have never tried a plant-based shake before, you may notice the absence of creaminess that dairy would impart.
Effects Score : 5 out of 5
I’m pretty old school and simple when it comes to recovery. A recovery shake before bed or post workout, maybe a little stretching or foam rolling. I believe that protein taken right before bed or post workout helps your body recover more quickly and efficiently.
I had my shake (1/2 serving of Vega) at night before bedtime. With careful consideration for my daily caloric needs I don’t always take an entire serving that is suggested on the package. If a full serving will put me at my calorie limit for the day, I remedy this by simply cutting the serving in half.
I have noticed a difference when I take this before bed each night. When I wake I feel like a million bucks, have oodles of energy and ready to face the day.
The nutritional breakdown in 1 serving size of Vega Sport is:
Mixing Ability Score: 4 out of 5
My baseline standard test, is out of the package into a shaker bottle and mixed with water.
Vega Sport mixed up nicely, no clumps…. but there was a sandy texture to it. It didn’t completely dissolve in the water, there was a residual coating in the cup. If texture is a factor, you might find issue with Vega Sport… depending on what you are used to.
I have noticed a difference when I take this before bed at night. When I wake I have oodles of energy, recovered and ready to take on the day. Not to mention, it’s super good news for vegans or people who can’t eat dairy. Factor in comparing Whey vs. Plant-based: You can’t compare–It’s like comparing bananas and avocados. 😉 Luckily, there are options for everyone.
Pros: The vanilla flavor is good, not harsh artificial sweet tasting. I find that Vega Sport not only gave me the specific recovery Carb to Protein ratios I was looking for–but the calorie value too. An ideal option for folks wanting a strictly plant-based dairy free recovery.
Cons: Its didn’t dissolve completely in water. It had a texture that I would describe as sandy.
